Volunteering with Heart

July 12, 2021

There are numerous needs in every community – however, the most important might be those dealing with children and families.

Members of our Veterans & Allies Ohio and Women in Leadership Ohio EBRGs volunteered at Laura’s Home. Part of the Cleveland City Mission, Laura’s Home provides a haven for women and children in transition, as well as specialized services to empower families and individuals to live healthy lives.

Despite rainy weather, our volunteers removed weeds and laid down 15 yards of mulch.

This group of employees recently volunteered at Shoes & Clothes for Kids in Cleveland, an organization working to improve K-8 school attendance by eliminating barriers such as lack of appropriate clothing, shoes and school supplies. They worked at the organization’s Perkins Warehouse for four days, where they counted uniforms, restocked shelves and helped organize outerwear items.

The FirstEnergy Foundation made a $2,500 donation in the memory of West Penn Power employee Vincent Joseph Capozza to support Lillian’s Legacy Fund. The fund honors the legacy of Lillian Capozza, Vincent’s grandmother who taught her children (and subsequently her grandchildren) the value of service and compassion. All funds collected from this account will be transferred to the Community Foundation of Fayette County to support scholarships, awards and grants that focus on developing and honoring youth leadership, career development programs and girls making a change.
