Our Employee Business Resource Groups (EBRGs) continue to expand around the company and are grabbing the attention of local media outlets.

THRIVE, a FirstEnergy EBRG dedicated to serving as a resource for employees with disabilities and major illnesses, as well as family members and friends who support them, was recently featured on News 5 Good Morning Cleveland.

The story included Kevin Irwin, director, Distribution Business Systems. He’s a founding member of THRIVE and his personal story created his passion to help individuals with disabilities.

“My son, Cory, was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder in second grade. During this time, I found coworkers who faced similar challenges in their families. Today, Cory is 25-years-old and studying for his master’s degree at John Carroll University. Even with my son’s successes, he still has difficulty finding gainful employment. Groups like THRIVE are so important to families affected by disabilities, and for the growth and diversity of our communities.”

THRIVE Chair and Customer Service Assistant Michael Mosley also contributed to the story. He can relate to the difficulties of having a disability. Mosley depends on a wheelchair for mobility.

“Employment is important to the mental health of someone with a disability who wants to work, be a contributing member of society and live independently. THRIVE is for every employee who wants to support disability inclusion in our workplace,” he said.
