Thirty-One Years of Safety Excellence

Harrisville Service Center

June 28, 2018

Employees at Mon Power’s Harrisville (W.Va.) Service Center celebrated 31 years without an OSHA-recordable incident. It’s the longest active safety streak in FirstEnergy Utilities’ history.

Harrisville’s 13 employees celebrated their safety achievement at a luncheon event attended by Holly Kauffman, president, West Virginia Operations, and Mon Power senior management. “When it comes to employee safety, our ultimate goal is zero incidents and injuries,” Holly says. “Harrisville employees continue to show that goal is attainable.”

Before retiring on May 1, line worker Ron Harper played an instrumental role in Harrisville’s safety success. Holly recognized Ron for his contributions to Harrisville’s safety culture. “Ron was a mentor to his coworkers, fostering a work environment in which Harrisville employees watch out for each other and have the courage to speak up if they have a concern.” Holly says. “The next generation of leaders at Harrisville are well prepared to carry on the tradition of mentoring and modeling safe work behaviors.”
