The FirstEnergy Foundation Helps Restore Holiday Cheer

December 14, 2018

The holiday season is a time for spreading good cheer all around. So when the FirstEnergy Foundation heard about someone stealing toys intended for disadvantaged children in Akron, it stepped in to help keep the season bright.

After learning that thieves posing as volunteers had stolen $5,000 worth of toys from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots storage area in Akron, the FirstEnergy Foundation donated $5,000 to replace the stolen gifts.

“We were heartbroken when we heard the news about the theft from the Toys for Tots program,” said Dee Lowery, president of the FirstEnergy Foundation. “We have employees in six states who support Toys for Tots every year, so this loss hit close to home for us. We are so pleased to be able to make this $5,000 grant to help assure the program’s promises can be fulfilled this year.”

Each year, the organization begins collecting toys in January to distribute during the holiday season. Toys for Tots likes to provide three toys to each child. Donations of money still are being accepted online*.
