Every day, countless individuals face the unimaginable reality of domestic violence—often forced to choose between their safety and a place to call home. At FirstEnergy, we believe no one should have to make that choice.

As part of an ongoing commitment to address housing insecurity, the FirstEnergy Foundation is supporting organizations that provide safety, shelter and hope to those affected by domestic violence. According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, domestic violence is the third leading cause of homelessness among families.

In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the FirstEnergy Foundation is awarding $100,000 in grants to emergency shelters and housing providers across our service territory. These funds will help strengthen life-saving programs, raise awareness and empower survivors to rebuild their lives with dignity and stability. The following organizations will receive grants:

  • HOPE, Inc., Fairmont, W.Va.
  • Heartley House, Frederick, Md.
  • Bethany House, Toledo, Ohio
  • Providence House, Cleveland, Ohio
  • Family Services Inc., Altoona, Pa.
  • Aware, Inc., Sharon, Pa.
  • 180 Turning Lives Around, Hazlet, N.J.

“Supporting survivors of domestic violence means investing in their safety, dignity and future,” said Amanda Mertens Campbell, Vice President, External Affairs. “These grants demonstrate our strong commitment to helping individuals rebuild their lives and achieve stability through secure housing and compassionate care.”
