Safety Milestones at MP, PE and JCP&L

While COVID-19 has changed the way we do business, FirstEnergy employees continue to focus on protecting each other from injury. Although we do not have group photos due to social distancing guidelines, we are continuing to recognize our employees’ dedication to going home safely to their families, every day. Today, we’re featuring Potomac Edison, Mon Power and Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) work groups that recently achieved safey milestones.
Potomac Edison
Receiving the President’s Safety Excellence Award were:
- Petersburg – Thirteen employees celebrated six years without an OSHA-recordable incident on Feb. 20.
- Frederick – The group’s 93 employees achieved one year of OSHA-free work on May 15.
Bargaining-unit employees at Petersburg and Frederick are represented by Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA) Local 102.

Mon Power
Receiving the President’s Safety Excellence Award were:
- Controls group at Virginia Avenue – Twenty-three employees achieved 17 years without an OSHA-recordable incident on Feb. 7.
- Weirton – The service center’s 33 employees celebrated four years without an OSHA recordable on March 2.
- Sistersville – The group’s 15 members marked three years OSHA free on March 24.
- Substations – The group’s 93 employees celebrated three years of OSHA-free work on March 28.
- Elkins – Fifty-nine employees eclipsed two years without both an OSHA recordable and CMVA on March 29.
- Franklin – Nine employees celebrated 18 years without an OSHA recordable on April 9.
- Morgantown – The service center’s 69 employees achieved one year of OSHA-free work on April 9.
- Gassaway – Thirty-seven employees marked two years without both an OSHA recordable and CMVA on May 8.
Bargaining-unit members at Virginia Avenue, Weirton, Morgantown and Gassaway are represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 2357. Union employees in the Substations group belong to IBEW Local 2357 or IBEW Local 50.
JCP&L
Receiving the President’s Safety Excellence Award were:
- Cookstown – Fourteen employees celebrated 15 years without an OSHA recordable on June 2.
Cookstown is the line shop with JCP&L’s longest active OSHA-free streak. Bargaining-unit employees at JCP&L are represented by IBEW Local 1289.
