Preparing for Our Harvest

February 24, 2021

Due to the COVID-19 environment, we’ve had to develop creative ways to conduct our 2021 Harvest for Hunger food campaign. This year’s event will run March1-31, and will offer initiatives to keep our employees safe, yet still benefit the many people in need in the communities we serve. Our 2021 campaign goal is 2 million meals – and a $1 donation equals seven meals.

“As we all know, food insecurity is a real concern for our communities right now and our help is needed more than ever,” said Lorna Wisham, vice president, Corporate Affairs and Community Involvement. “We’ve developed guidelines on how we can still implement a successful campaign in a virtual environment, while supporting the many foodbanks in need across our service area.”

Currently, employees can access giving opportunities targeting Harvest for Hunger foodbanks and pantries through the Community Impact Portal. There are seven giving opportunities available under the Make a Donation/Browse Giving Opportunities tab. For employees interested in supporting one particular foodbank or pantry, the Find a Cause search bar is accessible under the Make a Donation/Explore Causes tab. Search by foodbank name for the opportunity to donate by credit card or PayPal.

Employees are encouraged to visit the Harvest for Hunger SharePoint page often. Information will be updated daily to communicate activities planned by coordinators, description of auction items and reminders on ways to give.

As with any virtual fundraising effort there are challenges, and we need FirstEnergy employees to be engaged and support the creative ways our Harvest for Hunger coordinators are promoting for this year’s campaign. Help us continue to keep our communities strong!
