When USA Olympic gymnast Suni Lee accepted the gold medal in the women’s individual all-around competition, a bit of FirstEnergy climbed the podium with her – considering Met-Ed supplies power to the company that made the team uniforms.

Reading, Pa.-based GK Elite is the official supplier to the U.S. Olympic gymnastics squad.

“It’s always interesting to see how our FirstEnergy customers contribute to things like the Olympics,” said Consulting Engineer Guy Gockley. “GK is a Met-Ed customer, located a short distance from our headquarters in Reading.”

The company has manufactured Olympic uniforms before, but the 2021 Tokyo games are the first time that GK Elite is the official Team USA apparel sponsor for the men’s and women’s gymnastics teams. As a result, the GK Elite logo is on the uniforms.

GK designed several uniforms for the team, including traditional red, white and blue Team USA uniforms, as well as non-traditional designs in various colors.

GK Elite is the world’s largest manufacturer of gymnastic apparel. The company also sells licensed reproductions of Team USA leotards.
