Keeping Communities Strong and Safe

Making sure our communities can provide for those in need and keep residents safe is a priority of FirstEnergy and our employees. The FirstEnergy Foundation presented donations supporting these efforts to organizations in our Ohio Edison and Penelec service areas.

The East Akron Neighborhood Development Corp. (EANDC) received a $9,000 FirstEnergy Foundation check. The funds will be used to further strengthen EANDC’s ability to provide affordable housing through quality rentals, practical homeownership opportunities, homeownership education and neighborhood-based revitalization efforts.

(L.) At the check presentation are Dan DeVille, manager, Regional External Affairs, (r.), and Kelly Barr, EANDC CFO. (R.) Joe Jakubick, consultant, Regional External Affairs (l.), presented a $5,000 FirstEnergy Foundation check to Gus Comstock, director, Marion CANDO! (Ohio Edison). The funds will be used for operational support. CANDO! – which stands for Marion Community Area New Development Organization – promotes economic development and provides business expansion support for Marion County companies.

Operation Our Town in Altoona (Penelec) received a $3,000 FirstEnergy Foundation check. The nonprofit facilitates partnerships between community and business to fight drug abuse and crime through proven law enforcement and treatment and prevention techniques.

Beverly Green, consultant, Regional External Affairs (r.), presented the check to Shawna Hoover, executive coordinator for the organization.
