Jim Myers, President of WV/MD Announces Retirement
February 3, 2026
Jim Myers, President of West Virginia & Maryland, will retire on April 1 after nearly 40 years of dedicated service.
Jim began his career in 1985 as a student engineering assistant with Allegheny Energy and steadily advanced through engineering and leadership roles. Following the merger with FirstEnergy in 2012, he continued to make a significant impact in operations and leadership positions.
In 2020, Jim was named President of West Virginia Operations, later expanding his responsibilities to regulated generation plants and most recently, leading the combined West Virginia & Maryland operating company.
During Jim’s tenure, he guided the team in developing a comprehensive five-year plan focused on achieving operational excellence, strengthening financial performance and advancing a constructive state regulatory strategy that will benefit employees, customers and our communities.
Known for his collaborative approach and commitment to developing others, Jim has built lasting relationships and inspired colleagues across the company.
“I want to sincerely thank Jim for his dedication and service over the past four decades. Jim’s steadfast focus on safety, customer service and teamwork has set an exceptional standard for our organization,” said Wade Smith, President, FirstEnergy Utilities. “His leadership has left a lasting mark on Potomac Edison, Mon Power, and all of us fortunate enough to work alongside him.”
A nationwide search for Jim’s successor will begin immediately, considering both internal and external candidates.
