JCP&L Among Companies That Care

The CIANJ Companies That Care award.

October 7, 2020

Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) recently was among those honored with a Companies That Care award by the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey (CIANJ). This is the third year in a row JCP&L has received a similar award from CIANJ.

JCP&L was recognized for its donation, made in conjunction with FirstEnergy Foundation, to Lake Riviera Middle School in Brick Township, N.J. The funds allowed the school to purchase a greenhouse that is being used to grow food for the school’s culinary arts program as well as for donation to local food banks. For more information on this project, see A Green Thumb’s Up! in the Shining a Light on Students portal story.

CIANJ’s Companies That Care award salutes the generosity of New Jersey businesses who demonstrate meaningful philanthropy impacting the communities they serve. The award was presented by CIANJ and COMMERCE Magazine at their annual Best Practices Conference, which was held virtually this year.

“JCP&L continues to be a strong supporter of the local communities we serve, and we are humbled to be recognized for these efforts,” said Jim Fakult, president, JCP&L. “We applaud the students and staff at Lake Riviera Middle School for their focus on environmental education while helping to put food on the tables of local families who need it the most.”

CIANJ, a statewide business and advocacy organization, previously honored JCP&L with Champion of Good Works awards at its Companies That Care receptions in 2018 and 2019. Those awards were given for the company’s annual Harvest for Hunger campaign and its participation in Annual Fall Beach Sweeps activities organized by Clean Ocean Action, respectively.
