Penelec employees and their families enjoyed a day of sun, fun, thrills and chills recently at the annual Penelec Employee Picnic in Erie, Pa.

The weather was bright and sunny, thrills were provided by the rides and amusements of Waldameer Park, chills (or at least, opportunities to cool off) were available at the adjoining Water World water park, and fun was readily on hand for all.

“It was a pleasure spending a beautiful Sunday afternoon with employees enjoying this locally owned attraction, Waldameer Park and Water World,” said Nick Austin, Penelec regional president.

Approximately 135 employee families took advantage of a discounted admission price to both parks and were provided a picnic lunch. This was the fifth annual picnic sponsored by the Association of Utility Employees (AUE), a volunteer group open to all bargaining and non-bargaining employees. Spearheading the effort for this year’s event were Carol Smith, HR representative II; Becky Botelho, assistant business analyst, Operations Support; and Operations Services line distribution technicians Adam Gormley and Eric Azzato. Together, they promoted the event, collected reservations, coordinated with the park and purchased and prepared food for the lunch.

“Our AUE volunteers certainly deserve our thanks for organizing this day of fun,” said Nick. “We had a good turnout this year and hopefully, even more of us can enjoy next year’s picnic. At events like this, we welcome and encourage the participation of all employees, bargaining or non-bargaining, from all Penelec locations.”
