Goodwill Roundup

You’ve been making a true difference in our local communities – and we’re sharing your recent stories of goodwill, volunteerism and stewardship in action.
Camp Manatoc
Several FirstEnergy employees volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America Great Trail Council at Camp Manatoc Scout Reservation* in Peninsula, Ohio.
One group cleaned up an area that had overgrown during the past 40+ years, while a second team built steps into the hillside of a camp trail. Our volunteers got their hands dirty, using shovels, buckets, hatchets, a heavy hand tamper (used to flatten and pack dirt) and a mattock (akin to a pickaxe, for both chopping and digging).
“It was great helping maintain a camp that’s existed for more than 100 years while getting to know and work alongside my fellow employees,” said event volunteer Nancy Snyder, Executive Assistant Leadership. “Camp Manatoc was very grateful for our efforts. It was the hottest day of the year (so far, at least) … but I’d do it again in a heartbeat!”

Ian Patrick Schwarber Golf Outing
FirstEnergy volunteers came together June 20 to volunteer at the Fifth Annual Ian Patrick Schwarber Golf Outing held at J.E. Good Park Golf Course in Akron, Ohio.
The Ian Patrick Schwarber Foundation* is a 501c3 organization founded on the principles by which the late Ian Schwarber lived his life, with a focus on education, innovation and the arts.
Volunteers helped with registration, sold raffle tickets, monitored designated competition holes and distributed food and water to golfers.
“It was the perfect summer day to support the fundraising event for this cause,” said Eileen D’Alessandris, Compliance Specialist.

Second Harvest Food Bank
Ohio Edison employees from our Springfield Service Building enjoyed camaraderie while volunteering at the Second Harvest Food Bank.
“We boxed up canned goods, taped up damaged boxes and bagged up lettuce and peppers,” said Teresa Simkins, Advanced Distribution Associate.
