Frigid Fun for a Good Cause

Akron-area FirstEnergy employees, along with family and friends, recently participated in the Portage Lakes Polar Bear Jump. The event has raised more than $1.1 million for local charities over its 15-year timespan.

More than 750 jumpers participated in this year’s event which raised more than $150,000 for the Akron Rotary Camp and the Ronald McDonald House of Akron. Our FirstEnergy Team of 35 jumpers raised more than $22,000 with help from the FirstEnergy Foundation and came in second place for total funds raised for the event.

Over the past six years the FirstEnergy Team and the FirstEnergy Foundation has raised more than $140,000 for local charities including the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, Camp Quality, Akron Rotary Camp, and Ronald McDonald House of Akron. Samantha Szilagyi, advanced business analyst, serves as FirstEnergy’s team captain each year.
