For the second year in a row, the Women in Leadership Ohio Employee Business Resource Group (EBRG) volunteered with Girls on the Run (GOTR), participating in two fall 5K events.

The Girls on the Run Northeast Ohio fall 5K took place on Nov. 12 in Middleburg Heights. The event was sponsored by the FirstEnergy Foundation.

This year, a cheer team for the NE Ohio group was placed along the 5K course to show their support for the runners, coaches, parents and volunteers who participated in the run.

The Girls on the Run Northwest Ohio Star Power fall 5K event took place on Nov. 18 in Maumee.  The Women in Leadership Ohio EBRG group in Toledo Edison’s service area volunteered at two 5K events with Girls on the Run in May and November 2022. They handed out medals, water, and snacks, and managed the finish line to ensure safety for incoming runners.

Girls on the Run is a national non-profit organization that designs programming to strengthen third-to-eighth grade girls’ social, emotional, physical and behavioral skills to successfully navigate life experiences. The program’s intentional curriculum places an emphasis on developing competence, confidence, connection, character, caring and contribution in young girls through lessons that incorporate running and other physical activities.
