Reflecting its commitment to diversity and inclusion, FirstEnergy presented scholarships to three students in energy operations programs at affiliated colleges in Ohio and West Virginia.

Students in the Power Plant Technology Program at Youngstown State University (YSU) in Youngstown, Ohio, and in the Energy Systems Operations Pathway at Pierpont Community and Technical College in Fairmont, W.Va. received scholarships of $3,500 each. Both programs lead  to a two-year associate degree.

FirstEnergy Fleet Operations established the FirstEnergy Fleet Operations Diversity Scholarship to encourage minority and female students to pursue careers in generation. Scholarships provide $3,500 each year. A student may be eligible to receive the scholarship twice, receiving up to $7,000 in scholarship funds over the course  of their program.

Scholarships were presented Friday, May 3 at Pierpont and Monday, May 6 at YSU.

“Building a diverse team that better reflects the demographics of the workforce in the regions we serve is a core value at FirstEnergy,” said Dan Rossero, vice president, FirstEnergy Fleet Operations. “Diversity and inclusion serve to make FirstEnergy and our communities stronger.”

FirstEnergy was recognized by DiversityInc earlier this month as one of the top six utilities for its commitment to workforce diversity and inclusion.
