Feeding Families in Need for the Holidays

Employees from Energy Efficiency, Energy Conservation, IT, Burns & McDonnell, retirees and family members joined forces in supporting The Salvation Army of Reading's (TSAR) Thanksgiving Food Drive. The group filled more than 800 bags of food for distribution to families in need. The bright blue FirstEnergy Foundation bags were donated by Corporate Affairs and Community Involvement. Nancy Shurr, (retired) advanced business analyst, Energy Efficiency, presented a $3,000 ($2,000 from the FirstEnergy Foundation and $1,000 from Met-Ed) donation to TSAR.

Providing food for everyday nourishment is a challenge year-round for some families. The holidays are no exception. Employees throughout the company went above and beyond in supporting food drives, fundraisers and more to help ensure those in need in our communities had a joyous holiday season.

FirstEnergy’s Veterans & Allies Employee Business Resource Group once again partnered with the USO of Northern Ohio to sponsor a Holiday Care Package Collection at 18 individual collection sites. The drive resulted in 65 moving-sized boxes filled with supplies (which translates to more than 700 care packages), $730 in cash donations, as well as hand-written letters and cards.

Our Fairmont Contact Center employees collected gifts, food, monetary donations and items for

Christmas dinner for a local family (mother, father and three children). The mother was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and our employees’ generosity helped make the family’s holidays more enjoyable.
