Employees from Potomac Edison’s Martinsburg (W.Va.) Service Center recently received notes of appreciation for their efforts to help ensure two local hospitals continue to receive reliable electric service.

Members of the Lines, Engineering & Design, and Customer Support groups assisted with an expansion project at the medical center that also required upgrading the facility’s electrical system. In addition to installing a new transformer and underground service feed, line crews removed some older equipment to make room for future expansion at the site.
“We worked closely with Jefferson Medical Center, the W.Va. Department of Transportation, the City of Ranson and other interested parties to ensure the successful completion of this project,” said Tony Lewis, Customer Account specialist. “It required nearly two years of planning, and multiple company departments worked together to discuss design options, perform a load study, and install the new equipment.”
From Jefferson Medical Center:
We always have good support from Potomac Edison/FirstEnergy, and this last project was successful because of the Martinsburg team’s assistance. They are continually making the electrical distribution system more reliable at our site.

Substation employees recently performed proactive maintenance and other activities to ensure the medical center’s two primary feeds remain reliable. The job required careful coordination with hospital personnel as they manage both the primary power delivery and their on-site backup generation.
“Throughout the project, our Substation employees placed a strong emphasis on developing detailed job plans and reducing their exposure to injury,” continued Tony. “Providing quality service is a team effort, and we’re proud of our Martinsburg employees for their commitment to our customers and their focus on completing jobs safely.”
From the VA Medical Center:
Thank you and your crews for a great job done. All went successfully and … it’s always a pleasure working with your crews.
