Customer Shout-Out: Penn Power

John Greenwood and Matt McAleer

Matt McAleer, supervisor, Line & Substations, and John Greenwood, regional External Affairs consultant, recently teamed up and went above and beyond to help an elderly Penn Power customer with repair costs.

During a storm, a utility pole on the man’s property was damaged. A Penn Power crew placed the pole in a safe position, but the situation required more permanent repairs – which were the responsibility of the customer. It became apparent that the man could not afford the repairs.

Matt was monitoring the situation and brought it to John’s attention. In turn, John reached out to the Disability Options Network, which secured a federal grant to pay for more than half of the repair charge. A contractor scheduled to do the work covered the rest of the cost.

“Matt has been checking in on the man throughout the process,” John said. “His dedication to the community helped us deliver for this customer.”

A state lawmaker’s office was aware of the customer’s situation. When John passed along the good news, a staff member wrote: “What a relief! So grateful!”
