Announcing Carl Bridenbaugh’s Retirement

After a distinguished career spanning more than three decades with FirstEnergy, Carl Bridenbaugh, Vice President, Power Delivery, will retire October 1. Throughout his career, he helped shape the company’s power delivery operations through technical expertise, strong leadership and a deep focus on reliable, safe performance.

“Carl has been a trusted leader during important moments for our business,” said Toby Thomas, Chief Operating Officer. “His leadership across transmission and distribution operations has helped strengthen our system, and his impact will be felt across our organization for years to come. We are grateful for his many contributions and wish him all the best in retirement.”

In his current role, Carl oversees Transmission Operations, System Planning and Protection, Transmission Line and Substation Maintenance, and support for the company’s Distribution Control Centers. He has helped bring these functions together in support of a unified and integrated approach to real-time transmission and distribution operations.

He has also represented FirstEnergy with major industry organizations, including the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), ReliabilityFirst, PJM Interconnection and the North American Transmission Forum (NATF), helping advance industry collaboration and strengthen the company’s voice on critical issues.

Carl’s background

Carl began his career with Ohio Edison in 1988 as a Transmission Planning Engineer, building a strong foundation in system planning and engineering. Over the years, he took on a series of leadership roles that reflect his technical depth, including Manager of Transmission Planning, Director of Transmission Operations and Director of Transmission Planning and Protection.

He was named Vice President of Transmission in 2012 and became Vice President, Power Delivery in June 2024. In these roles, he has helped guide some of the company’s most critical operational functions while supporting strong system performance across the enterprise.

Prior to joining FirstEnergy, Carl worked as an application engineer with General Electric. He holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering and is a registered professional engineer in Ohio.
