All In a Day’s Work

In the comics, Steve Rogers is the real name of Captain America, a superhero who defends American values by helping people in need and standing up for the little guy. FirstEnergy has its own Steve Rogers, and he recently performed a good deed in the community.

While carrying out his duties as a Revenue Operations collector for Potomac Edison, Steve came across a young child playing in the road.

“The first thing I noticed was an orange ball bouncing into the street,” recalled Steve. “As I got closer, I saw a small child – no more than 2 years old – chasing after it. I immediately stopped my vehicle, activated the amber emergency lights, and got the child to safety.”

The child was unsupervised, so while Steve assessed the situation, he asked a nearby couple to call the police. He then attempted to locate the child’s parents by knocking on the door of a nearby home. After some time, a man answered and explained the child must have gotten out through an open window.

Steve contacted the police on his own to make sure they had his version of the events that occurred, hoping that the situation doesn’t repeat itself in the future.

“I’m just glad I was there to help the child on that day,” Steve said. “It was a no-brainer for me – you help because it’s the right thing to do. If faced with a similar situation, I’m certain that any of my coworkers would have reacted the same way.”

Steve’s supervisor, Melanie Ammons, was not surprised by Steve’s actions. “It’s just in his nature,” she said. “Steve has kids of his own, so when he sees a child in trouble he is going to stop and help. I’m very proud of his efforts and to have him on my team.”
