The important advantages of nuclear power have been showcased at several events held near the Perry Power Plant recently.

Elected officials in Lake County, Ohio, gathered for a breakfast Jan. 11, to hear FES representatives answer questions and provide information about the Perry Plant and nuclear power in general. David Hamilton, Perry site vice president, and Dave Griffing, FES vice president Governmental Affairs, talked about the benefits of nuclear power and the contributions of the Perry Plant in the community. Matt Messenger, senior nuclear engineering specialist, Perry Site Projects, and a member of the site’s North-American Young Generation in Nuclear group, gave a personal perspective on the importance of the plant in his family’s life and the effects its closing could have on him.

An Ohio Clean Energy Jobs Alliance (OCEJA) representative was there also, and talked about legislative efforts in Ohio, encouraging attendees to join the alliance and support nuclear power.

Another event, sponsored by the North Perry Village mayor, was conducted Jan. 14. More than 100 residents attended a public forum where FES representatives presented information and answered questions. OCEJA was on hand at that event as well, signing up those interested in being part of the alliance.
