“Other holidays repose upon the past; Arbor Day proposes for the future,” said J. Sterling Morton, founder of today’s beloved holiday that celebrates all things trees.

As FirstEnergy plans for a more sustainable, greener future within the local communities we know, serve and reside in, we’ve made great strides.

This includes our company’s long legacy of receiving recognition from Tree Line USA for our efforts. This year marks the 28th time the organization has awarded us this annual honor, which celebrates utilities striving to provide reliable service, promote abundant, healthy trees and meet these five standards:

  • Following industry criteria for quality tree care
  • Providing annual training for employees in best tree-care practices
  • Sponsoring tree-planting and public education programs
  • Maintaining a tree-based energy conservation program
  • Participating in Arbor Day events

Employees also deserve praise for making great progress with this year’s corporate tree goal to plant 25,000 new trees in our service area. We have already planted 13,000 trees this year – a notable figure that surpasses our goal’s halfway mark.
