A Dream Come True

Mark before his performance.

Many of us would panic at the thought of performing in front of a large audience – especially singing our national anthem. But not Mark Bair, construction site coordinator, York office. His long-time dream has been to perform the “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the start of a baseball game.

This summer Mark got his wish.

On Aug. 6, before the Reading Fightin’ Phils vs. Hartford Yardgoats game at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pa., Mark sang the “The Star-Spangled Banner” in front of a crowd of more than 7,000.

Mark, who also sings for his local church band, was thrilled with his ballpark debut.

“As a FirstEnergy employee and a U.S. Navy veteran, it was a double honor to sing the national anthem before the game. It was a memorable experience at a beautiful ballpark,” he said.

Mark’s rendition apparently brought the home team good luck – because The Fightin’ Phils won the game, 5-4.

Mark’s daughter, Abigail, captured his performance.
