2019-2020 STEM Grants Awarded

October 31, 2019

Each year, FirstEnergy awards numerous STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Classroom Grants. And, the 2019-2020 school year is no exception. In fact, for this year’s program we awarded nearly $97,000 (116 grants) throughout our service territory. That means numerous teachers and STEM facilitators and educators – along with hundreds of students – will benefit from FirstEnergy’s program, which provides grants of up to $1,000.

“Our External Affairs team did an excellent job of getting the word out to educators throughout our service territory. The number of STEM grant applications we received doubled over last year,” said Torey Tolson, analyst, Corporate Affairs and Community Involvement, and STEM Classroom Grant program manager. “STEM studies are at the heart of every teaching philosophy applied in learning. Children who excel in STEM are better prepared for career opportunities within our industry and candidates for future leadership positions.”

Members of our External Affairs team have notified recipients and throughout November will present the grants to the winning applicants in their areas. Look for more on our STEM grants in use on the FirstEnergy Today portal and in Together.
