It’s a Great Time to Refresh the Outside of Your Home

April 8, 2021

Most of us spent a lot of time socializing outdoors last spring and summer – keeping our distance while contributing to good mental health. Now, one year later, it’s a good time to get back outdoors and maybe even invite over friends and loved ones you haven’t seen in a long time.

What follows are things you can do to make the outdoors comfortable and inviting for yourself and your family and friends.

Mulch your beds. Mulch is a great way to keep moisture in and weeds out – and there’s nothing like fresh mulch to show off the plants in your landscape.

Consider adding a water or fire feature. Bubbling fountains and eye-catching fire features come in a variety of sizes, styles and budgets.

Plant something for the pollinators. You can find perennial and annual plants to attract pollinators at your local garden center. Whether in flower beds or containers, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the pollinating visitors you’ll receive.

Pressure wash and seal decks and walkways. A good pressure wash can bring new life to decks, patios, and walkways. Be sure to apply sealant when thoroughly dry to keep it looking fresh.

Check fencing and make repairs if necessary. Spring is a great time to walk the perimeter and check for loose boards. Be sure to check the ground level for holes that could have been created by your dog or wildlife.

Plant a tree, or two. A tree in the right spot can add years of enjoyment. Be sure to avoid planting near overhead lines and call 811 before you dig.
