Membership in the New Jersey Sustainable Business Registry entitles JCP&L to display this badge. Companies and organizations can apply to continue membership every two years.
Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) recently was recognized for its continued focus on environmental awareness and sustainable practices and policies by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), which named the company to its statewide Sustainable Business Registry.
The New Jersey Sustainable Business Registry is an internet resource where businesses can share their successes and inspire other organizations in implementing sustainable business practices. JCP&L is the only electric utility on the list of more than 150 New Jersey companies and organizations recognized for their environmental leadership efforts.
“We thank the State of New Jersey for this recognition,” said Jim Fakult, president, JCP&L. “Our membership in the Sustainable Business Registry will allow us to share the ideas and concepts behind our many programs dedicated to environmental stewardship. It also provides us the opportunity to work closely with other stakeholders on ideas to encourage the growth of sustainability within the state.”
JCP&L was recognized specifically for:
- Adopting an environmental policy statement
- Creating a company Green Team to promote sustainable practices and policies
- Implementing an environmental management system
- Establishing a waste reuse program that repurposes old utility poles
- Conducting a large-scale program that recycles old wire for use in manufacturing new electrical conductors
- Completing environmental restorations of Lopatcong Creek in Warren County, a marsh in Point Pleasant and a forest in Bradley Beach
- Creating a dedicated manager of emergency preparedness
- Continuing to support community initiatives
“While our accomplishments are extensive already, we expect to add more as we continue our sustainability initiatives,” said John Meehan, Regional External Affairs consultant and leader of the company’s Green Team. “We are an environmentally conscious company and we’re asking employees to help us continue to improve and develop innovative ideas for protecting and serving the environment.”
