Taking Care of Our Kids

Summer camps, special programs, school supplies and more – the FirstEnergy Foundation provides much-needed support to the children in our service area.
The Foundation provided a $1,100 check to Collier Youth Services for a Mobile STEAM Museum at Kateri Summer Day Camp for underprivileged youth in Marlboro, N.J. Each summer, more than 175 attendees between the ages of 5-13 spend seven weeks hiking, swimming, playing, crafting, reading and making friends. The museum offered hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) learning. From buzz wires to programmable robots, music makers to 3-D printing, the kids were able to experience high-tech fields of study that many of them would not have access to otherwise.

Josh Cross, consultant, Regional External Affairs (r.), presents a $2,500 FirstEnergy Foundation check to Rob Lavoie, Tecumseh Council, Boy Scouts of America (BSA) in Springfield, Ohio. For the fourth year, the Foundation sponsored the council’s Electricity Merit Badge Program. Scouts can earn the badge by demonstrating how to respond to electrical emergencies, understanding and defining electrical terms, energy conservation, understanding electric meters and electric bills, and showing knowledge of fusing and overloading of circuits. The Tecumseh Council serves more than 3,000 youth members in 129 units across five counties.
Libby Durr, consultant, Regional External Affairs, presents a $2,000 FirstEnergy Foundation check to Tom Bloom, Pantry Plus More in Morgantown, W.Va. The organization seeks to eliminate child hunger by operating in-school pantries stocked with food, hygiene products, school supplies and clothing.
