While much of the work we’re doing to help bring about a more diverse and inclusive culture is focused internally, our efforts are getting attention externally as well. Akron radio station 1590 WAKR hosts a weekly Monday morning segment called Business of the Week, featuring companies with strong roots in the community and a compelling story.

Recently, FirstEnergy was invited to be the Business of the Week to discuss our Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) efforts. Chris Walker, senior vice president and chief Human Resources officer, and Stacey Silvis, director, Diversity & Inclusion, spoke with radio host Tony Mazur about our numerous D&I initiatives and the benefits they deliver.

“Diversity and inclusion is one of our core values and so important in the work place,” said Chris. “Research shows companies who are strong in this space are strong financially. Employees are more engaged and innovative.” Research also shows that more diverse companies have a better understanding of their customers and can better meet their needs. “And that’s what we’re aiming for,” noted Chris.
