For the third consecutive year, Toledo Edison employees partnered with the Red Cross of Northwest Ohio for their Sound the Alarm campaign, helping to install smoke alarms in residential homes and educate residents on the importance of home fire safety.

Nearly 50 employees volunteered this year to make 127 homes safer by installing 403 smoke alarms. Since 2017, Toledo Edison employees have helped install 769 smoke alarms in the community.

“I can think of no better example of a diverse team working together to make our customers’ lives brighter and communities safer,” said Toledo Edison Regional President Rich Sweeney. “To put this in perspective, almost 15-percent of Toledo Edison employees participated in this special event.”

For Customer Accounts Manager Brad Gillespie, who serves on the Red Cross board, the event was especially meaningful.

“Over the past three years, we have engaged our employees in a day of caring to make as many homes safer as we can,” Brad said. “Employees truly enjoy this opportunity and we had an overwhelming response, prompting us to expand our efforts to four simultaneous installation efforts in northwest Ohio. It’s truly a humbling and rewarding experience.”
