After Mohican State Park in Loudonville, Ohio, suffered tree loss due to a tornado, employees – including Green Teams volunteer Diego Gallardo, Engineer IV – reforested the damaged area by planting 320 new trees.
Led by the Green Teams, employees have again exceeded our yearly corporate goal to plant and give away thousands of trees across our service territories. Since its inception in 2020, our tree program has gifted more than 131,000 trees to local communities – making spaces greener, more vibrant and abundant.
“Our tree program is a success because of the steadfast dedication, participation and engagement by FirstEnergy employees,” said Dave Frederick, Director, Environmental. “Your commitment to bettering the environment really shines through. None of this would be possible without your hard work, energy and enthusiasm.”
In 2025, your efforts helped FirstEnergy:
- Plant and donate 30,010 trees, surpassing our goal of 25,000 trees.
- Successfully complete 151 Green Team events – more than half of which assisted underserved and overburdened communities. Last year, 91 of our events were held in these communities.
- Make a true difference in our communities by collectively using 3,438 volunteer time off (VTO) hours to participate in Green Team events. A total of 797 employee volunteers participated.
- Sustain our community garden and company pollinator garden programs. Employees planted 26 community gardens last year, totaling 113,289 sq ft., and created three new pollinator gardens on company property.
Growing roots … by the numbers
Year by year, our tree program – thanks to your investment in it – has been steadily securing roots and surpassing expectations to make a noticeable difference in our communities. Here’s a breakdown of how far we’ve come in just five years:
