Employees Take Action Against Hunger

September 16, 2025

In honor of Hunger Action Month, we’re spotlighting employees who recently rolled up their sleeves and got to work to help fight food insecurity in our communities.

Second Harvest Food Bank

Employees got to work at the Second Harvest Food Bank in Youngstown, OH by labeling and packing 1,440 cans of green beans for local families in need. Wearing their FirstEnergy shirts and a spirit of service, volunteers formed an assembly line of compassion. Each unlabeled can was carefully stickered, packed into cases and prepared for distribution, transforming a simple task into a powerful act of kindness.

This hands-on effort is part of a larger movement happening at Second Harvest Food Bank. In 2024 alone, the organization distributed over 10.6 million pounds of food, including 2.5 million pounds of fresh produce, reaching more than 20,000 people every week.

Lunch Break

Volunteers from Mosaic and Women in Leadership spent the day at Lunch Break in Red Bank, NJ, a nonprofit dedicated to providing food, clothing, housing solutions, life skills and fellowship to those in need across Monmouth County and beyond.

Seven dedicated employees rolled up their sleeves to prepare and serve grilled chicken lunches, fresh salads and smoothies to over 200 guests. Beyond the kitchen, volunteers also assisted in Lunch Break’s client-choice pantry, stocking shelves and helping residents select food items tailored to their needs.

It was a meaningful day of service, reinforcing the power of community and the impact of giving back.

Volunteers Jose Ortiz and Felechia Martin stock shelves in the client-choice pantry.
