FirstEnergy is a proud supporter of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programs throughout our service territory. Recently, we served as an industry partner with the Akron City STEM High School, hosting a group from the People’s Republic of China. The visit was coordinated through Global Ties Akron and the focus of the visit was education reform in the U.S.

Terry Malone, general supervisor, Asset Systems, serves on the advisory committee for the Akron City STEM High School. He participated in a business partner panel discussion during the visit, providing insight into our company’s partnership and support of the Environmental Engineering and Software Engineering & Robotics pathways programs.

“They were impressed with the new pathway options and our business partner engagement. I wanted to spark their inner passion and curiosity and demonstrate FirstEnergy’s commitment to STEM growth in our area,” said Terry.

The school’s key partners, including Terry, also discussed their experiences working with STEM schools. In addition to our participation, Goodyear also participated as a local business partner.
